Some of you have no doubt heard about the merger (and acquisition) of Radio-Shack with Leopard-Trek. As cycling has little to talk about, now that the vuelta is over, there is endless speculation about who is going where, who is going no-where, and how many new contracts have to be signed (link here).. ad nauseum.
So instead I'd like to concentrate on the name for this new outfit. For a while there were quite a few names being bandied around.. Leo-Shack, Radio-Leopard.. Snow Leopard, until Apple stepped in and threatened a trademark infringement suit. Well, to make it easy on our tongue, unlike the really annoying LeOOHHHpard, how about we just call them SHREK. Much shorter than their proposed name Radio Shack-Nissan-Trek. And much more evocative of the wonderful mix this team will be, with 2 Schleck brothers, a Bruneel, Cancellara, a sprig of onions and a dash of epo ....ooops, I meant salt. No, really, I did mean salt.
Good luck to the new team, and may they have better luck than their progenitors.
